Q: What’s the story behind your name, Marker 23?

A: The inspiration for the name “Marker 23” comes from nautical direction markers, the kind that guide you as you navigate open waters. As a marketer, there are so many things you can do and directions you can take. But with a strategic, focused direction, we can help make the most of marketing budgets to successfully establish and grow businesses.

As for 23, that’s my lucky number. Leaving the security of a big, established advertising agency to start my own—offering full service, big agency skills on a smaller, more affordable scale—isn’t for the faint of heart. As I set out on this entrepreneurial adventure, I figured I might as well throw a little luck my way.

Q: Why did you decide to start Marker 23?

A: In 2015, I made the decision to move back to my hometown, and there weren’t many advertising agencies like in large cities. The agency I was leaving had offices in two different cities and I had years of experience working successfully with teammates across both locations. I knew I had the ability to continue collaborating with teammates no matter our locations, and that I could deliver big agency services in a more affordable way to companies both large and small.

As I was walking out the door on my last day, I was approached with the opportunity to do just that for Brass Ring Spirit Brands. While I did have to wear a lot more hats than I was used to, I also got to prove what I knew I could do—provide high quality marketing services for brands, no matter my location. Though the location of my desks have changed, I’m still developing quality, creative ways to help brands grow.

Q: Where do you see Marker 23 ten years from now?

A: In ten years, I see Marker 23 as a nimble part of the marketing teams for several clients—helping drive growth and success for brands with good stories and loyal communities.

Q: What’s on the horizon for Marker 23 this year? 

A: LOTS! We are kicking off the new year with a plan to start sharing more. For the first time since launching, we now have this blog and plan to contribute to it regularly. We’ve also worked with some great clients over the past year and will be updating our website soon to show off our work for them.
